Description
The One to One Africa Children's Fund (OTOA) in South Africa has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Community Health Curriculum Development Specialist. OTOA is a South African organization providing critical health services in the last mile communities -geographically isolated and difficult to reach communities with limited to zero social and medical support services. Through the Enable program, OTOA aims to reduce under-5 morbidity and mortality rates in the O R Tambo district through comprehensive door-to-door health services provided by Mentor Mothers and Community Health Workers. OTOA seeks to develop a robust 6-week training curriculum for community health workers (CHWs) to develop general and specialized skills in maternal, newborn and child health, women's health, HIV (eMTCT, linkage to care, adherence), TB, nutrition, early childhood development, social protection, and home-based care.
The PCRV will guide and support OTOA staff in the development and design of a training curriculum for the Enable Community Health program. In addition to co-developing training materials, the PCRV will help develop outcomes and competency assessment tools to be administered both at the beginning and end of the training for the in order measure any change in knowledge and perception of participants.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change because of the uncertainties as Peace Corps and local partners resume volunteer operations. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in South Africa together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
