Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Underwriter / Account Manager to join a modern, growing insurance brokerage in a key, long-term role within the brokerage.
This position plays a central role in the day-to-day operation, providing strong back-office and portfolio management support while working closely with senior team members on larger and more complex accounts. The ideal candidate is technically sound, highly organised, able to operate independently, and looking to commit long term within a stable, forward-thinking brokerage environment.
You will take ownership of a commercial portfolio of approximately 300 clients, managing renewals, endorsements, and ongoing servicing, while supporting senior stakeholders with high-value and complex placements.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Ownership
End-to-end management of renewals, endorsements, MTAs, and client enquiries across a diverse commercial book. Manage annual renewals from pre-renewal strategy through to placement, documentation, and client communication. Handle endorsements, mid-term adjustments, and ongoing policy maintenance with accuracy and efficiency.
Technical Underwriting & Placement Support
Provide technical underwriting support on both standard and complex commercial risks. Assist senior team members with larger, more complex accounts, including insurer negotiations, market presentations, and placement strategies. Review policy wordings, terms, conditions, and premiums to ensure suitability and compliance.
Client & Insurer Engagement
Act as a key point of contact for clients and insurers, maintaining strong professional relationships. Liaise directly with underwriters to negotiate terms, resolve queries, and secure competitive outcomes. Support claims processes where required, ensuring smooth communication and resolution.
Growth, Retention & Book Development
Identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities within the existing portfolio. Support new business initiatives through technical input, onboarding, and transition of accounts. Contribute to retention strategies by delivering proactive, reliable service.
Process, Systems & Quality Control
Work confidently within a modern broking platform and related systems.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes, workflows, and service standards.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal governance, and documentation standards.
