About the Role:
A leading law firm based in Johannesburg is seeking a dynamic and commercially astute
M&A Attorney
to join their Corporate / M&A practice. The successful candidate will advise high-profile local and international clients on complex M&A transactions, including private and public mergers, acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, and corporate restructurings.
Key Responsibilities:
Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating transactional documents such as sale of shares agreements, shareholder agreements, due diligence reports, and other related documentation
Leading or assisting in legal due diligence investigations and risk assessments
Advising clients on corporate governance, structuring, regulatory compliance (including Companies Act and Competition Law)
Managing transactions from inception through to completion
Liaising with regulators such as the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) and the Competition Commission
Working closely with internal teams and external advisors (e.g. tax, finance, investment banks)
Mentoring junior associates (if at Senior Associate level)
Staying up to date with local and international developments in corporate/M&A law
Requirements:
Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa
3-7 years post-articles experience in corporate/M&A law (mid- to top-tier firm experience preferred)
Strong academic background (LLB minimum, additional qualifications in corporate/commercial law an advantage)
Experience in cross-border transactions is advantageous
Excellent drafting, negotiation, and legal research skills
Commercially minded with strong problem-solving ability
Ability to work independently and as part of a high-performing team
Strong communication and client engagement skill
