Who are we?

Sanlam Group Technology is responsible for the provision of a digitally enabled technology service as a group COE, drive business and transformation and provide group-wide digital and data architecture. We operate the various technology platforms and shared services, ensure Cyber and Information Security resilience, and act as technology governance and risk orchestrator for technology across Sanlam.

What will you do?

Produces logical and technical specifications from functional specifications and writes the code for medium to large applications in procedural / legacy environments. Responsible for designing and coding new systems and changes to existing systems and is responsible for the design of relevant databases. Incumbent carries out systems analyses, design, coding, program debugging, system testing, security assessments, performance assessments and user interfaces. Applying Main Frame, Desktop and Embedded Technologies within Legacy / Procedural Application Environments .

What will make you successful in this role?

Analysis of change requests received
Provide recommendations and estimated cost/effort requirements for system changes
Design prototypes for change requests
Design Web Interfaces (graphic design) if applicable
Maintain existing programmes according to change requests
Produce appropriate software programs that satisfy the specifications
Test own programs / artefacts to ensure correctness
Test Interfaces to other systems
Debugging of programs
Provide test information to Testers
Implement changes into the Production environment
Update documentation according to implemented system changes
Updates of data model documentation
Problem solving, root cause analysis and user assistance (functional)
Technical support / assistance to others on own programs / systems
Provision of user guides / training material
Provide hands-on training for own system
Provide standby / support (if and when required)
Correct errors / bugs in production

Qualification

Matric
Relevant Information Technology qualification will be recommended

Experience
Minimum of 5 to 8 years experience in Mainframe Software Developement
Previous working experience in Financial Services is recommended

Knowledge

A solid understanding and knowledge of the following technical skills:

• Assembler and Cobol
• Mainframe Development Environemnt
• ROSCOE, TSO, Dumpmaster, SmartTest etc.
• MQ, SQL, JCL, and VSAM

A working knowledge of:

• TP monitors (e.g. IMS and CICS) and Data Management Systems (e.g. QSAM, DB2) will be recommended
• Server knowledge
• Software development process and methodology
