The Coal Wash Plant Manager is responsible for managing the overall operation, maintenance, and performance of the coal processing plant. The role ensures that coal washing, screening, and stockpiling activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with production targets, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management
Oversee day-to-day operations of the wash plant, including coal crushing, screening, washing, and product stockpiling.
Ensure maximum plant availability, throughput, and recovery while minimizing downtime.
Monitor plant performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions.
Manage coal quality to meet customer specifications and contractual requirements.
Maintenance & Asset Care
Implement and oversee preventative maintenance programs to ensure reliability of plant equipment.
Coordinate planned shutdowns and emergency repairs with the engineering and maintenance teams.
Ensure equipment is operated within design parameters and recommend upgrades where necessary.
Safety, Health, Environment & Compliance
Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act, environmental regulations, and site-specific safety policies.
Lead safety initiatives, risk assessments, and incident investigations within the plant area.
Drive a safety-first culture and enforce zero-harm practices.
People Leadership
Manage and develop a team of plant supervisors, operators, and support staff.
Provide training, mentorship, and performance feedback to build technical and operational skills.
Foster teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Production & Reporting
Develop and deliver daily, weekly, and monthly production reports against targets.
Monitor coal qualities, yields, and product blends.
Work closely with mining, logistics, and sales teams to ensure smooth supply chain integration.
Control operational budgets, consumables, and cost efficiencies.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree / National Diploma in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or Mechanical Engineering
At least 8-10 years' experience in coal processing or mineral beneficiation, with 5+ years in a managerial or supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of coal washing processes, dense medium separation, and related equipment.
Proven track record in plant optimization, cost control, and operational excellence.
Familiarity with SHEQ standards and mining legislation.
