About the Role
Craft School South Africa NPC is seeking a dedicated and experienced teacher to deliver a one-year practical sewing, textile and clothing studies course. This role is particularly well suited to someone who has taught Home Economics, Consumer Studies, or Clothing & Textiles in a school or classroom environment and enjoys working closely with students in a structured, skills-based setting. The position combines classroom-style teaching with hands-on practical work, supporting students to develop strong sewing skills, confidence, and readiness for the workplace and employment.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach garment construction and sewing skills, including Cut, Make & Trim (CMT) processes as well as embroidery and textiles
Plan and deliver structured lessons with clear learning outcomes
Demonstrate sewing techniques and supervise practical work
Assess learner progress through practical tasks and projects each term
Maintain attendance, assessment records, and learner portfolios
Manage a classroom and sewing workshop in a calm, organised manner
Ensure health and safety standards are followed at all times
Provide encouragement, guidance, and constructive feedback to learners
Who we are looking for:
A qualified or experienced school teacher, particularly in Home Economics / Consumer Studies / Clothing & Textiles
Strong sewing and garment construction skills
Experience managing a classroom and working with learners at different levels
Confident, patient, and well-organised teaching style
Experience working with youth or adult learners
A passion for youth and our project
Additional Skills:
Formal teaching qualification (B.Ed, Postgraduate Certificate in Education or equivalent)
