Ideally, a Civil Engineer would possess the following:

  • BEng/BSc/BS (Civil Engineering)
  • 5+ years' experience (renewable energy experience would be an advantage).
  • Awareness and understanding of civil balance of plant EPC and O&M agreements (PV solar and Wind projects).
  • Awareness and understanding of the relevant technical codes, regulations and standards relating to the development or renewable energy projects in South Arica.
  • Experience of the application and understanding of the guidelines and specifications relevant to civil engineering in South Africa.
  • Attention to detail required
  • Requires an organized approach to working, task prioritization and time management.
  • Commercial mindset and experience with optimizing overall business from a technical design and execution perspective
  • Awareness and understanding of the relevant technical codes, regulations and standards relating to the development or renewable energy projects.
  • Take ownership of meeting deadlines and drive tasks to completion
  • Strong initiative and the ability to proactively identify required tasks.
  • Able to work independently and in groups
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in renewable energy projects
  • Proficient in English
  • Willingness to travel and spend time on site
  • A valid Driver's license

As a Civil Engineer, you would be responsible for the following:
  • Responsible for the general day-to-day support and project management (civil engineering) of the relevant Projects.
  • Providing civil engineering input and technical interface between the various work packages (finance, legal, technical permitting, grid connection, etc.) necessary to fully develop the Projects.
  • Lead the development of technical civil engineering concepts and solutions of the projects, identifies optimal solutions from technical, commercial and execution perspective at early stage of solar PV and wind plants, and interconnection works.
  • Ensuring technical compliance (civil engineering) with Project documents.
  • Ensuring comprehensive and well drafted Employers Requirements/Specifications (and other contractual schedules) which are well integrated with the relevant EPC and O&M agreements.
  • Support during the procurement process of contractors to perform services under the relevant EPC and O&M agreements.
  • Technical support (civil engineering) during the process of preparation, negotiation, execution and conclusion of Project Agreements (including EPC, O&M and PPA).
  • Interfacing with owner's engineer (OE), sponsors legal advisors and lenders legal and technical advisors (LLA & LTA) contractors, Eskom/Grid Operator, Lenders, etc. during financial close process and construction.
  • Evaluation of design and pricing parameters (civil engineering).
  • Managing the process of procuring access to public infrastructure (roads, grid, etc) with Eskom or such other Governmental Authorities.
  • Provide technical input for financial close of successfully awarded projects.
  • Construction supervision (civil engineering).
  • Civil Engineering input in the project time schedule.
  • Meeting tight deadlines and keeping within budget.
  • Liaising with the BOP Contractor, including subcontractors and design consultants.
  • Prepare management presentations and generate periodic reports with the progress status of the company's projects.
  • Such other duties that may be required from time to time within the general scope of the position.
  • The role description should develop along with the changing demands of the projects' objectives and priorities.
