GIBB acted as the lead consulting engineer for this project. It entailed the development of a mixed land use integrated township with a proposed 12 300 stands, which targeted low and middle income families

GIBB, as part of the Joint Venture responsible for the design and preparation of the stadium for the 2010 World Cup Soccer, was responsible for electrical engineering and lighting design

Design Engineer: Railway - Overhead Traction Equipment (OHTE)

Essence of the job:

The core purpose of the job focuses on design and development of OHTE construction projects within the railway engineering environment. The job requires close liaison with multi-disciplinary project team members such as other engineering disciplines, project managers, and contractors to ensure that construction projects are designed according to applicable specifications and that they meet all railway operational safety, reliability, and sustainability standards.

Qualifications

  • BSc/BEng Degree or BTech (Electrical). Must provide Certificate with transcript.
  • Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer. Must provide Certificate with registration number.
  • At least 10 years OHTE Railway Design experience.
  • Five (5) of the ten (10) years post professional registration (Pr.Eng/ Pr.Tech Eng) should be in Substation and Transmission Line design.
  • Experience to include Construction Management
Experience
  • Develop Electrical OHTE construction project specifications and designs based on customer requirements and railway OHTE design standards.
  • Collaborate with contractors, and other construction professionals to ensure that engineering designs are feasible and meet all client project requirements.
  • Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) software and other requisite engineering tools to create and refine construction project designs. Creating 3D models and animations using CAD and BIM software.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses to determine the viability of new designs and construction techniques.
  • Develop and maintain project and contract documentation, including design reports, design drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure that construction projects meet statutory and regulatory requirements and adhere to railway safety, reliability, and sustainability standards.
  • Collaborate with members of the multi-disciplinary project team to ensure that construction projects are completed on time, within budget and in compliance with defined quality standards.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings and making recommendations to senior project management team members.
  • Conduct regular project team meetings and provide guidance and support to the multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Ensure that all project stakeholders are kept informed of project progress and project planning and milestone changes
