Our client is a forward-thinking mining organisation with a clear vision to be a globally significant, low-cost producer of strategic commodities essential for a sustainable future. Their flagship operation is positioned on Zimbabwe's renowned Great Dyke, featuring both open-pit and long-life underground mining phases, with continued studies into expanding value through base-metal reef utilisation. They are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with strong mining-sector exposure and a minimum of 8 years' relevant experience to join their growing team. This position will be based in Bryanston, Gauteng. The successful candidate will provide civil engineering expertise across project development, infrastructure design, construction oversight, and operational support to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective project delivery.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng / BSc) or equivalent.
Minimum of 8 years' civil engineering experience within the mining industry
(open-pit and/or underground experience beneficial).
Demonstrated experience in the design, construction, and maintenance of mining-related civil infrastructure.
Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, surface water and stormwater management, tailings and waste facility design, and haul road development.
Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MS Projects.
Knowledge of mining legislation, engineering standards, and environmental compliance requirements.
Professional registration with ECSA (PrEng/PrTechEng) or progress toward registration is advantageous.
Strong project management capabilities, including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and review civil engineering designs for mining infrastructure including roads, stormwater systems, platforms, drainage structures, water management solutions, and plant-related civils.
Manage conceptual, feasibility, and detailed design stages for civil engineering components of mining projects.
Oversee construction and contractor activities to ensure compliance with design standards, safety regulations, and project schedules.
Conduct geotechnical assessments and collaborate with mining, geology, and environmental teams to integrate civil solutions across mine planning and operations.
Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, cost estimates, project schedules, and risk assessments.
Support the development and optimisation of both surface and underground infrastructure layouts.
Coordinate with external consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
Monitor and assess existing civil infrastructure to recommend maintenance, upgrades, or optimisation initiatives.
