-Join us as Chief Safety Officer, and be responsible for the management of the Safety and Risk Department at our Lebowa and Borwa Mine. You will also oversee the optimisation of the safety and risk control through design, implementation, evaluation, coordination and management of the safety and risk control systems, as well as for ensuring legal compliance at the Unit. -Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Execute the legal function of Chief Safety Officer at the designated area.
  • Lead and Participate in Site Safety inspections.
  • Co-ordinate and participate in Safety audits for Operations / Sites.
  • Compile the annual Safety Improvement Plan ensuring plans are in place for Operations.
  • Co-ordinate and participate in Risk-Assessments for the Operations.
  • Decide on audits and inspection / PTOxe2x80x99s program and schedule for the operation.
  • Contribute to the operation safety targets setting.
  • Advice on the need for safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • Approve safety and risk control recommendations.
  • Determine scheduling of external and internal safety audits.
  • Select safety campaigns and safety promotions.
  • Has the authority to stop the operation or workplace if the working conditions are unsafe.
  • Select appropriate Safety training needs for the operation.

  • Take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  • Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
  • Identify specific risks within working area and adhere to discipline-specific plans/system to avoid these risks.

  • Adhere to Anglo American compliance requirements and ensure compliance of team.
  • Adhere to compliance governance within the team.
  • Other requirements as assigned by the Manager
This role is in the Safety Department at a Band 6 level reporting to SHE Manager

Qualifications
-You will need the following:
  • Tertiary diploma (M+3) in Safety or Risk Control (NADSAM) would be advantageous
  • Quality Assurance
  • Blasting Certificate for metalliferous mines or Engineering Trade certificate (essential)
  • Mine Overseer Certificate for metalliferous would be advantageous
  • PRMS (PLCL)
  • COMSOC I & II
  • SAMTRAC
  • ISO 45000
  • Courses in Safety management systems (9001, 14001, 18002) would be advantageous
Experience:
  • At least 5 years relevant Mining / Process / Engineering experience, which should include developing, implementing, managing and auditing of safety and risk control initiatives and programmes
Mines
  • Blasting Certificate for metalliferous
  • Mine Overseer Certificate for metalliferous would be advantageous.
Process
  • 5 yearsxe2x80x99 experience as Process Supervisor
Engineering
  • Engineering Trade Certificate
  • 5 yearsxe2x80x99 experience in relevant trad
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Risk management techniques and critical controls
  • Leadership tools for implementing a culture of purposexe2x80x93led high performance and change
  • Computer literate (MS Power point, Word, Excel, Access, and Projects)
  • Auditorsxe2x80x99 courses for Safety and Risk Control management
  • Risk Assessment Techniques: (LFI, WRAC, SWIFT, HAZOP and FMECA)
  • Risk impact assessment
  • Accident investigation (AICAT, RCAT or SCAT)
  • Fire (Advanced fire xe2x80x93 FPA)
  • Behaviour Based Safety
  • First Aid
  • Analytical Skills
  • Conflict Management Skills
  • If successful, you will be required to undergo a Medical Fitness Test
