IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this "mine of the future". Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development.
Suitable candidate must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
Tertiary qualification in Occupational Safety / Risk / Engineering Management
Project Management qualification
Incident investigation certification (ICAM/RCAT/SCAT)
Valid driver's license
SAMTRAC or NEBOSH certification (preferred)
Professional registration with SAIOSH or equivalent (preferred)
Strong leadership and mentoring ability
Advanced incident investigation and root cause analysis
Excellent report writing and communication skills
Proficient in C-MIRM operational risk management systems
Knowledge of quality management and HSEQ auditing
Ability to work effectively in multicultural environments
Skills transfer and coaching capabilities
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
10 years' mining safety experience, including shaft sinking projects
5 years in a Chief Safety Officer or equivalent leadership role
Experience in developing, implementing, and auditing safety programmes
Emergency preparedness and response management in mining/construction
Exposure to international safety standards (ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001) preferred
Your successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
Implement and monitor safety management systems in compliance with MHSA Sections 22 & 23
Conduct inspections, audits, and enforce compliance with safety procedures
Lead safety training and awareness initiatives
Stop unsafe work when necessary
Oversee safety for shaft sinking and associated civil works
Conduct and update risk assessments
Develop and implement preventative safety measures
Lead incident and accident investigations
Prepare and manage safety budgets
Compile and submit mandatory safety reports
Maintain legally compliant safety files
Mentor and develop safety team members
Drive skills transfer and manage contractor safety performance
