Hire Resolve's client, a highly regarded multi-disciplinary engineering firm specialising in sustainable mining project development and delivery, is currently seeking a Chief Safety Officer for a high-profile mining project in Secunda. This is a rewarding opportunity to work on the Sasol mining project, with a focus on safety leadership and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Oversee all HSE-related activities for the mining project under the Mine Health and Safety Act and OHS Act
Establish, implement and maintain project-specific HSE systems, documentation, and procedures
Ensure contractor compliance with Sasol onboarding, Safety File, and work permit requirements
Lead incident investigations, conduct site inspections, and chair monthly H&S meetings
Review and approve Contractor Safety documentation including risk assessments and method statements
Supervise site induction programs, equipment compliance checks, and plant operator certifications
Facilitate monthly H&S Agent audits and ensure the resolution of non-conformances
Ensure legal HSE appointments are in place and occupational health standards are met
Support project team with Cold and Hot Commissioning safety processes
Manage and coordinate PPE distribution, safety campaigns, and emergency preparedness
Prepare and present monthly safety reports and safety interventions
Monitor environmental compliance and support EMPr condition implementation
Drive a positive HSE culture and promote continuous safety improvement
Requirements
Minimum Qualification: NQF Level 6 in HSE or related field
Compulsory Registration: Registered as an HSE Manager with SACPCMP (Not HSE Officer)
Minimum 10 years of HSE experience in the construction or mining sector
Strong knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act and Occupational Health & Safety Act
Additional Certifications (Preferred):
NEBOSH International Certificate or SAMTRAC
Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
Incident Investigation
Legal Liability * Computer literate with strong command of MS Office/Office 365
