Job Description


Main purpose of the job:

  • To co-ordinate and facilitate Youth Care Clubs in allocated facilities.
  • To provide holistic counselling, health education and support to adolescents and young people with regard to HIV and sexual reproductive health, including disclosure, adherence, treatment, and psychosocial matters related to HIV
Location:

Key performance areas: Provide client counselling and support
  • Provide HTS and index testing services to adolescents, AGYW and their partners including those on the Youth Care Clubs (YCC)
  • Provide ongoing risk assessments and counselling, repeat HIV testing, adherence support for continued use of PrEP, and comprehensive follow-up services for patients, optimising continuation of PrEP and retention in care
  • Conduct in-depth one-on-one pre and post-counselling sessions as and when required in accordance with HIV testing services guidelines
  • Develop and implement Youth Care Clubs in supported facilities
  • Provide support to Case managers and Groundbreakers regarding HIV testing services guidelines and support groups as and when required
  • Provide HIV and sexual reproductive health information to adolescents and young people that includes but is not limited to pregnancy and pregnancy prevention, STIs, HIV and HIV prevention, adherence, ARVs, nutrition, PMTCT, hygiene
  • Promote the uptake of PrEP in eligible AGYW and their partners
  • Offer PrEP as part of a comprehensive package of Sexual & Reproductive Health Services (including condoms, contraception, emergency contraception, pregnancy testing, STI screening and management, HIV testing, post-exposure prophylaxis, and linkage to other health services) in supported facilities
  • Create and maintain WhatsApp group chats as part of the prevention for PrEP users (AGYW)
  • Promote B-WiSE health.com and other health activities
  • Ensure the implementation of Youth Zones in identified sites, according to programme plans
  • Provide counselling regarding HIV, including HIV disclosure, and ART adherence
  • Identify and recruit clients into Youth Care Clubs and I ACT support groups within allocated facilities
  • Follow-up on Youth Care Club patients who have defaulted by missing scheduled visits and facilitate return to care
  • Create and maintain WhatsApp group chats as part of the retention strategy for ALHIV
Administration
  • Ensure Youth Care Club data is captured in the relevant registers and reported as required
  • Record information and data into the electronic database as required
  • Compile monthly reports
  • Assist with operational research-related activities as and when required
Effective self-management and performance ownership
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrate effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Take ownership of driving own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities
Required minimum education and training:
  • Grade 12
  • Accredited Certificate in Basic Counselling and HIV
  • Valid Driverxe2x80x99s License
Required minimum work experience:
  • 6 months experience in HIV Testing Services (HTS)
  • Relevant experience in the health field, or related post
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:
  • Fluency in more than one African Language (relevant to the area)
  • Experience with adolescent HIV and SRH counselling
  • Sensitivity to the specific needs of adolescents and young people
  • Experience with support group facilitation
  • Training and experience as an I ACT facilitator
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work towards deadlines
  • Be a team player
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Have good time management skills
  • Passionate about working with adolescents and young people
  • Competent in counselling and prick for HIV testing
Demands on the Job:
  • Confidentiality, tact, and discretion should be maintained at all times
  • Ability to work in a poorly resourced environment
  • Ability to work well with adolescents and young people, and to understand their health and psychosocial needs
  • Ability to work overtime as and when required
Communications and relationships:
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders
