1. Purpose of the Role
The Canteen Manager is responsible for managing the full operational, financial, and customer-service functions of the Potchefstroom Academy student canteen. The role ensures high-quality service, consistent food standards, effective team supervision, and a warm, engaging environment for students.
2. Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
Oversee all day-to-day canteen operations.
Ensure compliance with health, hygiene, and food safety regulations.
Manage stock levels, supplier relationships, and inventory tracking.
Maintain a clean, organised, and student-friendly environment.
Customer Experience
Foster a lively, welcoming atmosphere for students and staff.
Engage with students to gather feedback and introduce continuous improvements.
Ensure fast, professional, and friendly customer service.
Team Leadership
Supervise, mentor, and coordinate a small team of staff.
Prepare staff schedules, allocate responsibilities, and ensure adequate coverage.
Promote teamwork, accountability, and efficient workflows.
Menu & Innovation
Develop and update affordable, nutritious, and appealing meal options.
Introduce specials and creative campus-focused offerings.
Monitor food quality, consistency, and pricing.
Financial & Administrative Management
Oversee daily cash-ups and financial reporting.
Manage budgeting, cost control, and expenditure tracking.
Ensure accurate record-keeping for stock, sales, and operational expenses.
Work closely with institutional management regarding financial compliance.
Events, Promotions & Catering
Coordinate catering for campus events, functions, and meetings.
Develop promotions, theme days, and interactive initiatives.
Drive additional revenue through external catering and event opportunities.
3. Minimum Requirements
Formal qualification in catering, hospitality, or food service management.
Proven experience in the food and beverage or catering industry.
Strong financial skills
, including budgeting, stock control, and cash-up procedures.
Demonstrated leadership and staff management abilities.
Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Ability to innovate and enhance the student dining experience.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple operational tasks.
