Job Description

:
A catering company, specialising in school canteens and tuck shops, is seeking a Canteen Manager with chef skills to join their team. This is a full-time in-office opportunity.
The Canteen Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, coordination and smooth running of the assigned business unit, including the management of food preparation and kitchen processes, stock level management and control, financial management and overall facilities maintenance, hygiene and cleanliness. This shall include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Staff Management: Manage performance, utilisation, discipline, leave and morale of team members.
  • Stock Management and Control: Manage stock levels, including prepared items, ensuring that each kitchen always has sufficient stock, including scheduling in terms of varying demand.
  • Financial Management: Manage the business unit's weekly and monthly income and expenditure to ensure a 50% operational cost outcome.
  • Food Safety: Implement and monitor food safety practices, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Food Quality: Ensure food quality standards are maintained.
  • Facility Management: Maintain a clean and organised environment, including regular cleaning and sanitising of equipment, surfaces, and storage areas.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build customer relationships and effectively handle complaints or concerns.
  • Waste Management: Ensure minimum wastage.
  • POS and Software Management: Manage product listing and pricing within Allxs, ensuring accurate and correct information at all times.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership role within a kitchen environment, preferably in a fast-paced setting.
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and culinary principles.
  • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Experience in menu planning, recipe development, and inventory management is advantageous.
  • Ability to maintain composure and make decisions under pressure.
  • PR and marketing skills are advantageous.
  • Valid driver's license and own vehicle
