Job Description

This role is for a graphics specialist encompassing design, production, development, integration and operation for live news broadcast graphics.



As part of the creative team, the role of the Broadcast Graphics Developer is to bring value to the channel through enabling the editorial team to communicate their message effectively to the viewer in real time. The Broadcast Graphics Developer will interact with the news team to understand and develop a design environment which is made up of a graphics library that ranges from news straps, tickers, financial report boards, weather report elements and so forth.




All the graphical elements will be built to function in real time through the incorporation of scripting and math function logic. The Broadcast Graphics Developer will have experience of working in fast-paced news broadcast graphics and a deep knowledge of at least one broadcast graphics system; in this scenario, Avid Maestro. The developer will be able to understand data integration and be able to work alongside the editorial and IT teams to deliver cutting-edge financial, sports, weather, traffic and possibly social media data.

Key Responsibilities



Design & Development:

Architect, design, and build sophisticated, data-driven broadcast graphics, including lower thirds, full screens, tickers, and animations.

Data Integration:

Develop and maintain robust systems to integrate live data using APIs, processing information from various internal and external sources (e.g., financial markets, sports scores, weather feeds).

Full Lifecycle Management:

Manage the graphics development lifecycle from concept and asset creation through testing, approval, and final deployment.

Template Creation:

Build and maintain templates for use in iNews, News Controller, and Media Composer to ensure efficient editorial workflow.

System Integration:

Create data sources and seamlessly integrate data into broadcast systems, primarily Avid Maestro and VizRT.

Coding & Logic:

Develop the underlying math functions and connection logic for graphic scenes to ensure accurate and reliable real-time operation.

Collaboration:

Work closely with design teams, IT, engineering, the creative director, and team leads to successfully deliver new graphics packages and system updates.

Troubleshooting:

Proactively investigate and resolve technical issues to ensure broadcast readiness and stability.

Qualifications & Experience



Essential:

5+ years of experience in a broadcast graphics development role within a live news environment.

Essential:

Expert-level proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator).

Essential:

Strong programming skills for data integration, specifically C#, with proven experience working with APIs, XML, and JSON.

Highly Desirable:

Hands-on experience with Vizrt template design and development.

Highly Desirable:

In-depth knowledge of newsroom systems (e.g., iNews, DALET) and video production workflows.

Required Skills & Attributes



An expert understanding of live broadcast graphics systems and production processes. Proven operational experience with VizRT, Ross, or similar systems.
