Job Description
Are you a Bioinformatics expert ready to make a significant impact? Our client is seeking a dynamic Bioinformaticist for a Fixed Term Contract until March 31, 2025, based in Durban.
Position Purpose: The incumbent will play a crucial role in molecular biology and microbiology, specializing in Next-generation sequencing data analysis. Reporting to the Chief Scientist, this position requires strong bioinformatics analysis and scripting experience, including proficiency with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, Perl).
Minimum Requirements & Key Competency:
- Education: MSc in Molecular Biology or related discipline (NQF Level 9).
- Advantage: MSc in Bioinformatics, and a PhD is desirable.
- Experience: 6 yearsxe2x80x99 experience with Next-generation sequencing data analysis.
- Skills: Proficiency with relevant sequence analysis tools/best practices.
- Environment: Experience working in a Linux/Unix environment is desirable.
- Scripting: Strong bioinformatics analysis and scripting experience, including proficiency with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, Perl).
- Knowledge: TCP/IP knowledge will be an added advantage.
- Management: Project management, financial management, and costing skills.
- Innovation: Innovation and problem-solving skills.
- Communication: Ability to write successful grant applications and reports to funders, publish findings in scientific journals.
- Collaboration: Ability to work with others, including international collaborators, and manage junior staff and students.
