BI Reporting Business Analyst (Contract) South Africa/hybrid
Our client requires the services of a BI Reporting Business Analyst, responsible for gathering, defining, and translating business reporting requirements into clear, structured specifications for Business Intelligence, data engineering, and analytics teams. This role plays a key part in delivering accurate, consistent, and insightful reports and dashboards that enable data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
Contract Details:

• Working Model: Hybrid
• Assignment: Contract role for initial 6 months (possibility of renewal).
• Commencement: As soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities
Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Engagement

• Facilitate workshops and stakeholder interviews to understand reporting and dashboard requirements.
• Translate business questions, KPIs, and processes into clear reporting requirements.
• Document business and functional reporting requirements (BRDs and FRDs).

Reporting Design & Specifications

• Develop report mock-ups, wireframes, and storyboards aligned to business use cases.
• Define calculations, logic, filters, hierarchies, and data sources for reports and dashboards.
• Review BI tool capabilities and recommend appropriate design approaches.

KPI & Data Definition

• Define and maintain KPI dictionaries and business metric definitions.
• Document data mappings between source systems and BI models.
• Ensure consistent application of business rules and metric definitions across reports.

Data Analysis & Validation

• Analyse datasets to assess data availability, quality, and suitability for reporting.
• Support BI developers with business logic clarification and requirement interpretation.
• Validate dashboards and reports against business requirements and source data.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Prepare UAT plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria for reporting solutions.
• Coordinate UAT execution with business users and manage defect resolution.
• Ensure final outputs meet accuracy, usability, and performance standards.

Governance & Change Management

• Contribute to reporting catalogues, metadata management, and documentation.
• Manage report updates, enhancements, and decommissioning.
• Support training and onboarding for new dashboards and BI tools.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting processes.
• Promote self-service analytics and BI best practices.
• Provide insights to improve reporting maturity and data usage.

Qualifications & Experience
Education:

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience:

• 3-5+ years' experience as a Business Analyst, Reporting Analyst, or BI Analyst.
• Experience working in large-scale data or analytics environments.
• Exposure to data governance and reporting best practices.
• Experience working in Agile or Scrum delivery teams (advantageous).

Knowledge & Skills
Technical Skills:

• Strong understanding of KPIs, metrics, and business processes.
• Ability to translate business needs into reporting and data requirements.
• SQL or strong data literacy for data validation and analysis.
• Experience with BI and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or SAP Analytics Cloud.
• Understanding of data modelling concepts (facts, dimensions, star schemas).
• Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines (advantageous).
