A leader just as comfortable querying a warehouse or building in Power BI as you they are advising on executive decisions or interpreting regulatory nuance.

Role Summary




As the BI Reporting and Insights Lead, you will drive the design, build, and automation of advanced dashboards, reporting models, and data solutions. From real-time dashboards to automated reporting frameworks, you will shape how insight is generated, delivered, and used.


This role sits at the intersection of data, finance, and strategy.

+ BI, Insight & Automation Leadership: Designing BI solutions, modelling key metrics, and streamlining reporting through automation. Strategic Financial Reporting & Compliance: applying those insights within a finance-first, insurance-led environment specifically supporting the reporting needs of our regulated insurance cell ensuring accuracy, compliance, and commercial relevance.

Key Responsibilities



BI, Insight & Dashboard Leadership



Build scalable, intuitive Power BI dashboards tracking KPIs, financial health, operational and product-level performance. Design and maintain automated reporting workflows for self-service analytics. Translate business challenges into data-driven solutions. Collaborate with Data Engineers and Scientists to shape data models, define logic, and validate visualizations. Lead continuous improvement of reporting tools and processes to support strategic decision-making.

Strategic Financial Reporting & Commercial Insight



Lead timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements per IFRS and regulatory timelines. Spearhead reporting for the regulated insurance cell, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Drive finance input into commercial strategy with decision-ready insights and dynamic dashboards. Provide proactive financial insights to leadership and commercial teams. Partner cross-functionally with actuarial, risk, and commercial teams to translate complex financial results into clear, actionable business intelligence.

Regulatory and Audit Excellence



Support regulatory submissions (e.g., SARS VAT, Tax, PAYE). Ensure audit readiness and manage external audit engagements. Monitor evolving IFRS standards and embed changes into reporting and processes.

Data-Driven Reporting, Systems & Process Innovation



Own and improve the full financial reporting lifecycle through enhanced controls, accuracy, and automation. Maintain ledger accuracy and perform reconciliations to ensure data integrity. Conduct variance analysis and commentary on actuals vs budget to support proactive decisions. Support budgeting and forecasting processes with meaningful financial insights. Independently extract, analyze, and model financial data from the data warehouse. Collaborate closely with commercial and technology teams to embed scalable, digital-first finance processes.

Technical Skills



Power BI (expert), Apache Superset, dashboard development, self-service reporting frameworks Confident in writing custom queries, validating metrics, and troubleshooting data discrepancies Financial Systems: Xero, Syft (or similar), strong systems fluency Financial Modelling: Advanced Excel, scenario analysis, budgeting templates Deep knowledge of IFRS (especially within insurance); experience in cell-captive structures preferred Strong grasp of ledger management, consolidations, working capital tracking, and variance analysis Able to independently query and navigate structured data environments Comfortable working alongside Data Scientists and Engineers to define reporting requirements and visualisations.

Experience:



3-5 years' experience in financial reporting, financial analysis, or business intelligence within financial services environment. Proven track record in Power BI from advanced dashboards to automation. Strong data modelling, SQL, and data extraction skills. Understanding of financial principles and comfort applying BI in a finance context. Experience working in or supporting finance teams (IFRS, reporting cycles, audit, etc.) Experience working with data teams, contributing to data pipeline validation and visualisation logic. Prior experience working in a growth-oriented or commercially driven environment is a plus.

Qualifications:



CA(SA) qualification BCom in Accounting, Finance * Honours or Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting
