Back End Developer (python)

A growing financial technology innovator is on a mission to make global payments simpler, faster, and more cost-effective.

We're looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help design and build the robust infrastructure. You'll play a key role in shaping the company's technical foundation--leading end-to-end projects, designing APIs, and developing scalable backend services that process transactions securely and efficiently.
You'll work closely with the founding team, product leads, and technical partners to solve complex challenges that sit at the intersection of travel, payments, and technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and build scalable backend services (primarily using FastAPI / Python)
- Integrate with leading payment processors
- Contribute to architecture for multi-tenant, multi-currency systems
- Champion code quality, testing, and clear documentation
- Collaborate on key infrastructure and architecture decisions
- Have to reside in Cape Town
- 6+ years' experience building production-ready backend systems
- Strong Python development skills (FastAPI or similar frameworks preferred)
- Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and ORMs such as SQLAlchemy
- Experience with API design, async programming, and third-party integrations
