Job Description


Core function:
Ensure quality assurance processes through effective management and leadership of the bachelor of education foundation phase program.
Evaluate, coordinate, and develop the bachelor of education foundation phase program.

Responsibilities:
Overall quality assurance of bachelor of education foundation phase.
Identify opportunities for new programs and assist in the development of new programs.

Program assessment:
Curriculum review and development with detailed integration possibilities with other courses/programs, co-lecturing, assessments, etc.
Annual program review report, improvement plan, and implementation plan.
Coordinate the external program review every three years.
Review and provide relevant reports needed for accreditation with CHE, DHET, SAQA.

Quality assurance structures:
Approval of the application process for the bachelor of education - foundation phase.
Ensure curriculum updates are timely, ensure completion of course subject guides aligned with the correct NQF levels.
Convene meetings with subject heads coordinating courses within the BEd foundation phase program and ensure quality assurance tasks are completed per CCE policies.
Contribute to timetabling and staffing plans.
Supervise moderation of different courses within the bachelor of education - foundation phase, including internal and external moderation.
Conduct and integrate student and lecturer course reviews into the program.
Oversee the Work Integrated Learning course within the program.
Serve as subject head for one course in the bachelor of education foundation phase program.
Teaching in the program when required.

Student support:
Supervise student support.
Monitor and track students' academic results, progression, and performance within the program.

Staff development:
Conduct peer learning and teaching reviews twice a year.
Participate in lecturer performance reviews with HR manager and head of programs.
Approve lecturer workload sheets translated into contracts for permanent and part-time staff.
Implement staff professional development where needed for the department.

Committee membership:
Actively participate as a member of the management team.
Engage with external stakeholders.
Scholarship of learning and teaching.
Collaborate on research focused on CCE learning and teaching activities.
Participate in CCE research community of practice.

Required:
PhD or relevant master's degree (NQF nine level qualification) with firm plans for doctoral study; proposed schedule of research publications or potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Relevant BEd or equivalent professional teaching qualification or applicable teaching experience in Waldorf and/or South African public schools.
Three years' experience of learning and teaching in higher education in an education department. Thorough knowledge of current changes, policies, and practices in higher education in South Africa. Experience in leading and coordinating a team. Knowledge and skill in the use of ICTs in learning and teaching.

Recommendations:
Proof of registration for a relevant PhD (past proposal stage).
Demonstrated leadership in teaching creative arts, educational theory, or mathematics.
Experience and/or knowledge of learner management systems.
Published articles in peer-reviewed and indexed journals.
Delivery of peer-reviewed papers at recognised education conferences.
