AutoCAD Draughts Person Needed for International Design Company
Remote opportunity: Candidates to be based in Cape Town
Reporting to: AutoCAD Draftsman Team Lead Role Summary:
The AutoCAD Draughtsman is responsible for producing high-precision technical drawings and detailed design documentation that align with project requirements. This role requires collaboration with the interior design team, consultants, and contractors to ensure all drawings are accurate, buildable, and compliant with industry standards.
The AutoCAD Draughtsman will be responsible for translating conceptual designs, hand-drawn sketches, and 3D visuals into fully coordinated, detailed AutoCAD drawings. This role also requires strong organizational skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to quality control.
Primary Responsibilities:
Technical Drawing & Design Documentation

• Develop detailed AutoCAD drawings, including flooring layouts, ceiling layouts, flooring and ceiling details, elevations, joinery details, furniture layouts, toilet details, and door details, ensuring alignment with the design intent and adherence to the company CAD Standard Manual.
• Translate schematic designs, sketches, and 3D visuals into detailed technical documentation.
• Ensure all drawings adhere to working scales, metric/imperial conversions, and industry standards.
• Produce interior design-related drawings from concept design through to schematic, detailed, and tender packages.
• Create shop drawings and production drawings for manufacturing and construction purposes.

Coordination & Team Collaboration

• Liaise and coordinate between the design team, including Senior Interior Designers, Junior Designers, Design Managers, and Studio Managers, to ensure accuracy in documentation.
• Work closely with architects, engineers, interior designers and design managers, ensuring design intent is maintained throughout the drafting process.
• Understand and integrate information from different consultants into coordinated design drawings.
• Support the design team by updating and revising drawings based on feedback and project changes, ensuring all modifications are accurately reflected and clearly communicated.
• Incorporate any technical requirements into the drawing (e.g., HVAC, electrical systems).

Quality Contro Compliance:

• Review and verify all drawings before submission, ensuring technical accuracy and consistency with design intent.
• Ensure drawings comply with local regulations, industry standards, and project specifications.
• Check and correct potential design issues before submitting for final review.

Site Survey & Documentation

• Conduct site surveys as required, documenting existing conditions and integrating field data into technical drawings.
• Verify site measurements and incorporate them into final documentation.

Time & Workflow Management

• Work within established project deadlines and studio schedules, ensuring timely delivery of all drawings.
• Follow studio processes for file organization, naming conventions, and version control.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Qualifications:

• Diploma or Certification in AutoCAD, Architectural Drafting, or Interior Design

Experience:

• 3-5 years of experience in AutoCAD drafting, preferably within the interior design, architecture, or construction industry.

Skills & Competencies:

• Proficiency in AutoCAD for 2D drafting and technical documentation.
• Basic knowledge of Revit, ArchiCAD, or 3D modeling software is a plus.
• Strong understanding of interior detailing, joinery, materials, and furniture layouts.
• Ability to interpret architectural plans and coordinate with interior design elements.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring precision in all drawings.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, ensuring effective collaboration with all departments
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects, meeting deadlines efficiently.
