Job Description

Lecturing Mechanical Engineering Subjects, Research, Community Engagement, Undergraduate and Post Graduate Supervision in the Department of Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Associate Professor:

  • A Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering. All base qualifications must be in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of six (6) years' relevant Mechanical Engineering Teaching and Research experience in Higher Education.
  • Demonstrable track record of successful postgraduate supervision (Masters and Doctoral).
  • Demonstrable track record of publications in accredited and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to lecture at postgraduate level (Masters), Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) and Advanced Diploma (Adv Dip) subjects.
  • Must be registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or willing to register within 12 months of appointment.
Senior Lecturer:
  • A Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering. All base qualifications must be in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least four (4) years lecturing experience or four (4) years relevant industrial experience.
  • Demonstrable track record of successful postgraduate supervision.
  • Demonstrable track record of publications in accredited and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to lecture at postgraduate level (Masters). Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) and Advanced Diploma (Adv Dip) subjects.
  • Must be registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or willing to register within 12 months of appointment.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Lecture at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics disciplines.
  • Supervise and mentor both undergraduate and post graduate students.
  • Participate in academic development and administration.
  • Participate in curriculum and programme development.
  • Participate in Quality Assu ranee Activities.
  • Participate in research activities.
  • Assisting students with projects and productions.
  • Contribution to co-ordination of student projects and productions.
  • Contribution to departmental projects and productions.
  • Contribution to departmental WIL and service-learning projects and activities.
  • Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies.
  • Participation in ECSA or any other accreditation activities.
  • Assist with marketing and recruitment activities.
  • Perform other academic and support functions as may be required by the Head of Department.
  • Attend conferences and publish in accredited journals or conference proceedings as required by the university for academics.
