Job Description

Candidates should demonstrate:
o A comprehensive understanding of Music Education theories, pedagogical approaches, and current trends in teacher education, including knowledge of inclusive education practices and adaptive Music Education strategies.
o Expertise in developmentally appropriate music and musicing activities across all school phases (ages 4-18), music literacy and musicing development from early childhood through to adolescence.
o Proficiency and experience in piano and choral training with specific skills in instruction and tactical development.
o Curriculum development capabilities, including the ability to innovate and design Music Education programmes aligned with national policy frameworks (e.g. CAPS). The ability to integrate music effectively in cross-curricular themes and life skills development.
o Teaching capabilities encompassing the use of various delivery modes, proficiency in technology integration for Music Education and assessment.
o Community engagement; development of Music Education in schools.

Minimum Requirements

Associate Lecturer (3- year developmental contract)
o Master's degree in music education, or a master's in music education with a teacher education qualification (e.g. PGCE or B.Ed.)
o Registration for a PhD with significant progress (i.e. PhD proposal approved).

Lecturer
o PhD in Music Education or a related field.
o Expertise in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) and/or Foundation Phase and/or Intermediate Phase and/or Senior Phase and/or FET Phase (advantageous).
o Teaching qualification with Music Education specialisation (PGCE or B.Ed.).

Senior Lecturer
o PhD in Music Education or a related field.
o Expertise in ECCE and/or Foundation Phase and/or Intermediate Phase and/or Senior Phase and/or FET Phase.
o Teaching qualification with Music Education specialisation (PGCE or B.Ed.).

Relevant Experience

Associate Lecturer
o Some teaching experience in school contexts would be an advantage.
o Teaching in a Higher Education context would be an advantage.
o Mentoring or supervision of undergraduate students on Teaching Experience/Work Integrated Learning (advantageous).
o Demonstrated research capability or potential.

Lecturer
o Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in school contexts.
o Teaching in a Higher Education context would be an advantage.
o Mentoring or supervision of undergraduate students on Teaching Experience/Work Integrated Learning.
o Demonstrated research capability or potential.
o Capacity to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Senior Lecturer
o Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in school contexts.
o Teaching in a Higher Education context is essential.
o Experience in mentoring or supervision of undergraduate students on Teaching Experience/Work Integrated Learning.
o An established independent research profile and publication record in Music Education or related areas.
o A sustained record of undergraduate and postgraduate supervision in Music Education.
