Job Description

Candidates should demonstrate:
o A comprehensive understanding of Physical Education theories, pedagogical approaches, and current trends in teacher education, including knowledge of inclusive education practices and adaptive Physical Education strategies.
o Expertise in developmentally appropriate physical activities across all school phases (ages 4-18), motor development from early childhood through adolescence, and proficiency in sport-specific skills instruction and tactical understanding development.
o Curriculum development capabilities, including the ability to innovate and design Physical Education programmes aligned with national policy frameworks (e.g. CAPS), and to integrate cross-curricular themes and life skills development effectively.
o Teaching capabilities encompassing the use of various delivery modes to ensure high-quality teaching and learning experiences, proficiency in technology integration for Physical Education teaching and assessment, community engagement, school sport development, and leadership in Physical Education departments or sports programmes.

Minimum Requirements

Associate Lecturer (3 - year developmental contract)
o Master's degree in Physical Education, or a Master's in Physical Education with a teacher education qualification (e.g. PGCE or B.Ed.) (advantageous).
o Registration for a PhD with significant progress (i.e. PhD proposal approved).

Lecturer
o PhD in Physical Education or a related field. Expertise in Foundation Phase and/or Intermediate Phase and/or Senior Phase and/or FET Phase.
o Teaching qualification with Physical Education specialisation (PGCE or B.Ed.).

Senior Lecturer
o PhD in Physical Education or a related field. Expertise in Foundation Phase and/or Intermediate Phase and/or Senior Phase and/or FET Phase.
o Teaching qualification with Physical Education specialisation (PGCE or B.Ed.).

Relevant Experience

Associate Lecturer
o Some teaching experience in school contexts would be an advantage.
o Teaching in Higher Education contexts would be an advantage.
o Mentoring or supervision of undergraduate students on Teaching Experience/Work Integrated Learning (advantageous).
o Demonstrated research capability or potential.

Lecturer
o Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in school contexts.
o Teaching in a Higher Education context would be an advantage.
o Mentoring or supervision of undergraduate students on Teaching Experience/Work Integrated Learning.
o Demonstrated research capability or potential.
o Capacity to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Senior Lecturer
o Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in school contexts.
o Teaching in Higher Education is essential.
o Experience in mentoring or supervision of undergraduate students on Teaching Experience/Work Integrated Learning.
o An established independent research profile and publication record in Physical Education or related areas.
o A sustained record of undergraduate and postgraduate supervision in Physical Education.
