Job Description

The TAP department seeks an Associate Lecturer at full-time (100%) capacity to contribute to an innovative physical theatre teaching programme at the third-year level, with prospects to contribute to movement studies at the second-year level and musical theatre choreography at the fourth-year level once appointed as a full-time lecturer. This entry-level academic appointment is intended to support an emerging scholar-practitioner while they complete a higher degree and develop a sustainable academic career. The ideal candidate will combine professional performance experience with a strong academic background to contribute to the transformative engagement within the Theatre and Performance Department.

Duties:

Conceptualising and developing a physical theatre/screendance curriculum for the relevant years of study (third year). Teach theory and practice for physical theatre and screendance (third year). Participate in minimal course-linked academic administration and academic citizenship, such as monitoring and reporting on student attendance and progress, and coordinating course examinations and submission of course marks. Postgraduate supervision of at least one Honours candidate.

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum qualification is a Master of Arts Degree (or, in exceptional cases, a strong Honours with an MA in progress); PhD preferred. A demonstrated trajectory toward MA or PhD. For candidates already registered, provide evidence of registration for MA or PhD. Strong theoretical and practical grounding and knowledge of physical theatre, including movement studies, screendance, and choreography for musical theatre.

Advantageous:

Experience in screendance or any other relevant qualification to facilitate multimedia performance, such as media studies, film and television journalism, and film editing within performance practice. Industry experience in movement, dance, screendance, site-specific choreography and physical theatre (five or more years). Ability or competency to teach musical theatre choreography and facilitate musical theatre productions. Evidence of personal creative and/or traditional forms of research (innovative workshops, performances, arts interventions, chapters, videography and documentary, etc.) Knowledge of university administration systems and management systems in a tertiary institution (SIMS, AMS, etc.) Evidence of Academic citizenship or university teaching experience. Supervision record Evidence of a professional footprint

Teaching experience in physical theatre and then more of the following specialisations:

Physical theatre, choreography, dance, directing, cinematography and editing.

Appointment type & workload


o Fixed-term developmental appointment (up to 3 years, with possible 1-year extension subject to progress and recommendation).
o Indicative distribution: ~40% teaching & learning support, ~10% service (course-linked), ~50% higher-degree research/professional development.
