The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across multiple disciplines, including Accounting, Economics, Finance, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development (ISD), Management and Entrepreneurship, Political Studies, School of Government (including Public Administration) and the Academic Literacies Programme.
The Department of Industrial Psychology is building its teaching and research capacity in the teaching of Industrial Psychology and Human Resource Management related subjects. In addition to teaching those core sub-disciplines at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, the Department also has to provide research supervision in these areas to postgraduate students. In terms of its vision to be a globally recognized leader in shaping the future of work through advanced Industrial Psychology and Human Resources research, education, and practice, the Department is keen to appoint a candidate with appropriate disciplinary skills and experience to cultivate exceptional Industrial Psychology and HR professionals who drive organisational success and societal well-being by generating, applying, and disseminating innovative knowledge and best practices.
The successful candidate for Associate Lecturer in the Department of Industrial Psychology will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Facilitate learning and teaching at the undergraduate level in Industrial Psychology, in both face-to-face contact mode and online/blended learning environment;
  • Conduct research and publish;
  • Undertake Honours level research supervision;
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach;
  • Conduct academic administration.
Minimum Requirements
  • Honours degree (NQF level 8) in the field of Industrial Psychology / Human Resource Management.
Added Advantages:
  • Masters degree in the field of Industrial Psychology / Human Resource Management;
  • At least one year of experience in tutoring, graduate lecturing assistance or other teaching support roles;
  • Participation in at least one research activity, such as data collection, data analysis, literature review or co-authorship on a publication;
  • Demonstrated competence in data analysis specialised software packages (e.g. SPSS);
  • Registration as Industrial Psychologist with the HPCSA.

  • Computer literacy and e-learning skills, including use of technology-enhanced learning;
  • Adaptability and the ability to operate in a diverse environment;

  • Continuous professional development;
  • Technical professional knowledge and skills in the discipline and in the core strategic areas, namely learning and teaching, research and scholarship, community engagement as well as professional leadership.
