The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across multiple disciplines, including Accounting, Economics, Finance, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development (ISD), Management and Entrepreneurship, Political Studies, School of Government (including Public Administration) and the Academic Literacies Programme.
The Department of Economics is building its teaching and research capacity in the areas of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Quantitative Economics. In addition to teaching those core sub-disciplines at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, the Department also has to provide research supervision in these areas to postgraduate students. In terms of its vision to become a leading Economics Department that operates at the forefront of the knowledge economy in a digital age in sub-Saharan Africa, the Department has a strong preference for applicants with research experience in the application of economic principles to the formulation of economic or public policy in South Africa and the rest of the African continent.
The successful candidate for Associate Lecturer in the Department of Economics will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Facilitate learning and teaching at the undergraduate level in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Quantitative Economics, in both face-to-face contact mode and online/blended learning environment;
  • Conduct research and publish;
  • Undertake Honours level supervision;
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach;
  • Conduct academic administration.
Minimum Requirements
  • Honours degree in the field of Economics;
Added Advantages:
  • Masters degree in the field of Economics;
  • Demonstrated relevant tutoring or teaching/facilitation/graduate assistance experience, preferably in at least one of the following three core sub-disciplines: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Quantitative Economics;
  • Demonstrated competence in data analysis specialised software packages (e.g. E-Views, Stata).
