Future Careers is seeking an experienced Assistant Store Manager for a well-known ladieswear retail brand based in Pietermaritzburg. The ideal candidate is a fashion-focused retail leader with a strong track record in driving sales, supporting store operations, motivating teams, and delivering exceptional customer service while maintaining high visual and operational standards.
Description

• Support the Store Manager with daily store operations and overall performance
• Lead, coach, motivate, and manage staff to achieve sales and service targets
• Drive sales, turnover, and customer engagement on the shop floor
• Deliver consistently high levels of customer service and brand experience
• Manage stock control, receiving, replenishment, and shrinkage prevention
• Ensure visual merchandising and store presentation meet brand standards
• Assist with staff scheduling, performance management, and basic HR processes
• Ensure compliance with store policies, procedures, and operational standards
• Use store management systems and reports to support planning and performance
• Handle customer queries, complaints, and conflict professionally and effectively
• Maintain high ethical standards in all customer and employee interactions

Must be able to work retail shifts, including weekends and public holidays
Education Profile
Matric (Grade 12) - essential
A tertiary qualification in Retail Management, Commerce, or a related field - advantageous
Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a supervisory or management role within a retail environment
Proven experience in ladieswear or fashion retail - advantageous
Strong track record in driving sales, customer service, and store performance
Experience in stock control, merchandising, and store operations
Working knowledge of store management systems
Basic financial literacy, including sales reporting and target tracking
Basic understanding of HR procedures and industrial relations
Computer literate, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams)
