Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
At the University of the Western Cape (UWC), the Centre for Innovative Education & Communication Technologies (CIECT) is responsible for driving emergent technologies and innovative collaborative projects, to support teaching and learning aligned to the broader digital transformation agenda; and the Institutional Operating Plan (IOP). The university has continued to see significant strides in relation to the improvement of teaching practices, and especially online teaching, learning and assessment practices (blended and distance), for student access and success.
CIECT has identified a growth area within digital media development and production. In order to deliver the Centre's strategic initiatives, an opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate, Assistant: Materials Developer.
The Key Responsibilities of the incumbent include but are not limited to:
? Assist with production of multimedia content development and production for usage within the institutional Learning Management System and other digital platforms
? Assist the Coordinator with stakeholder engagements regarding the conceptualisation of multimedia projects to support blended learning, teaching and assessment approaches
? Meet established deadlines and communicate effectively with stakeholders
? Assist the main facilitators with the design and development of multimedia training workshops and courses
? Assist with the development of instructional material for self-directed learning purposes
? Quality assure all phases of multimedia production in collaboration with the Manager in relation to online learning and teaching utilisation, availability and reliability
? Contribute to the sharing of best practices related to multimedia content ethical usage, integrity and archived material.
? Assist with the exploration and adoption of best practice frameworks, production cycles, emerging and disruptive technologies (such Artificial Intelligence)
? Assist the Manager with the mentoring of newly employed Materials Developers
? Contribute to inputs and recommendations regarding business continuity; and the review of content development, production cycles, and facilitation processes
? Assist the Manager with the awareness around the security and POPIA landscape, especially in relation to the production, sharing and storage of multimedia content/material to mitigate risks; and recommend solutions
? Work closely with the other CIECT niche areas, departments and other stakeholders in relation to the creation of multimedia components for learning spaces (online and off-line)
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education and experience required:
? National Diploma or Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) OR National Certificate or Higher Certificate at (NQF 5) , with four (4) years working experience as an Assistant within a materials development context, especially in relation to the design and development of multimedia content within a Learning Management System.
Skills and Experience
Strong knowledge or understanding in these key areas would be advantageous:
? Industry recognized certification and experience would be an advantage (Multimedia, Graphic Design, Video Production, Sound Production, and Web Design).
? Multimedia Technologies: Adobe Creative Suite, Audacity/Sound production, We-Video & Camtasia for video production, Concept Mapping tools, Camera skills, Open Source Software, Editing Software
? Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technologies: Multimedia AI
? Learning Management System: Design and development of online environments integrating multimedia components
? Reporting: Oral and written communication skills
? Facilitation and Presentation:
o Design and develop multimedia training programmes and content
o Attention to detail and the ability to work within a timeline for production processes
o Ability to work independently as well as in a team
o Ability to explain technical terms in non-technical manner
o Ability to explore emerging technologies and share within team capacity building sessions learn
o Facilitation and presentation skills
o People/interpersonal skills
Minimum competencies required:
? Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
? Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams
? Ability to analyse and resolve problems swiftly using a range of multimedia tools and techniques
? Ability to explore and adapt to new technologies, best practice frameworks in the eLearning environment
? Understanding the security and POPIA landscape, especially in relation to the production, sharing and storage of content/material
? Embracing ethical usage and considerations of multimedia content production
? Ability to create and maintain technical documentation within the eLearning environment, and specifically the creation of multimedia instructional material
