Introduction

Our client in the automotive sector requires an Assistant Manager - Health Safety and Environment to join their team in Durban

Description

To support all Department with all Health, Safety and Environment Management including, but not exclusively;

  • External legal compliance, Department of Labor, Fire, ASIB, etc.
  • Championing development regarding ISO14001 and OHS with all administrative aspects related to Health and Safety
  • Internal auditing of OHS and ISO 14001 throughout all business units
  • Contractor Safety Management
  • Ability to train all levels of staff on SHE induction, OHS, and ISO systems 45001 and 14001
  • Obtaining relevant external certification as deemed appropriate and required by the company
  • Auditing - Conduct internal SHE inspections, form part of management walkabout team, prepare audit reports on monthly, quarterly statistics on incidents
  • Reducing the number of SHE related incidents and injuries
  • Risk management - identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks to employees, stakeholders, environment, and equipment/assets employing a hierarchy of controls to prevent occurrence and recurrences
  • Liaising with professional authorities on SHE matters.
  • Reporting of injuries to the professional authorities.
  • Facilitates the implementation of standards according to the requirements of the OHSAS guidelines and ISO standards
  • Ensures the organization is aware of and complies with, all legislation in relation to the use of its plant, equipment and substances, as well as in all workplace activities
  • Ensure records systems are maintained at Corporate in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards
  • Promotes occupational health and safety within the organization and encourage safer healthier working practices
  • Determines training requirements and implement safety procedures
  • Updates and maintains safety policies and procedures at Corporate Level
  • Identifying hazards and assess risk
  • Ensures record systems are effectively maintained at site level in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards
  • Incidents and accidents management
  • Administration and Management of IOD matters
  • Safety related administration, daily, weekly, monthly reporting, contractor management
  • Implementing SHE strategy in line with National SHE strategy, setting SHE objectives and targets, updating policies that govern safety, health, environment, and risk and ensure they are communicated.
Education Profile
  • Matric (Grade 12) level of education
  • Valid Code B vehicle drivers' license (Essential)
  • National Diploma/ Degree in Safety Management.
  • In depth knowledge and at least 3 years' experience of ISO 45001 & 14001 standards.
  • Understanding of legislation in the SHE space with emphasis on OHSACT, it's regulations and NEMA.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong administrative skills and attention to detail to ensure data correctness, completeness, accuracy, and validity.
  • Assertiveness and strong managerial skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing skills.
  • ISO Auditing and Management Systems implementation and maintenance experience.
  • Ability to conduct risk, aspect & impact assessments and incident/accident investigation using various models of root-cause analysis.
  • At least 5 years' management experience in health, safety, environmental, risk.
  • A team -player with an ability to independently without supervision and proactively.
  • Contractor Management and Safety File experience
  • Experience in Managing and administering IOD matters.
