Extensive knowledge of and insight into policy and legislation related to general and further education and training (in particular schooling)
In-depth knowledge of the National Senior Certificate and the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS)
Knowledge of the national education and training system and related issues, particularly in relation to large-scale national assessments, as well as demonstrating insight into a range of other aspects in education, such as teaching and learning
Knowledge and experience in the administration and moderation of assessments and national examinations at Grade 12 level
The ability to conceptualise, conduct and interpret research and statistical information
Strong coordination and administrative skills

The ability to work within tight timelines and extended hours
A valid driver's licence is essential.
Main Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to:
Plan, manage, and coordinate operations regarding quality assurance of school-based assessment, marking, the appointment of markers, and standardisation of marking guidelines of public and private assessment bodies, and to promote quality in the sector.
Draw up and oversee implementation of the annual sub-unit plan, and budget, and report on expenditure and progress.
Support the work of the Assessment Standards Committee of Council.
Monitor and enforce the implementation of Quality Assurance of Assessment (QAA) policies, examination policies, and regulations by assessment bodies.
Build and maintain stakeholder relationships.
Manage sub-unit operations and compliance with legal and administrative requirements.
Induct new staff into the sub-unit. Supervise, coach, and mentor sub-unit staff to develop internal capacity and capability to effectively execute sub-unit objectives.
Train external moderators and verifiers.
Perform other tasks delegated by the Senior Manager.
Report on assessments and examinations.
Requirements:
An appropriate recognised three- or four-year post-matric qualification in education
A post-graduate education qualification will be an added advantage
Current registration with the South African Council for Educators
At least three years' middle management experience in the school/college / Quality Council environment
At least 3 years' working experience in a school offering the National Curriculum Statement (NCS)
Experience working as an Umalusi Subject Specialist / Evaluator dealing with the evaluation and accreditation of independent schools is an added advantage, as is experience in the coordination and management of Umalusi Evaluation and Accreditation site visits.
Experience in teaching/lecturing in a private college offering a qualification on the General and Further Education and Training Qualifications Sub-framework will be an added advantage.
