Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the post of Assistant Librarian: Cataloguer.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Perform cataloguing, metadata and classification activities
  • Create bibliographic records, either through original or copy cataloguing of acquired library materials
  • Perform quality control of bibliographic records
  • Assign and edit metadata on the IR and ETD platforms
  • Manage and process donations
  • Ensure that UWC Library holdings are accurately reflected in local, national, and international databases
Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
  • A degree in Library & Information Sciences at NQF level 8 or equivalent qualification
  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Digital Media
Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes):
  • Good knowledge of a library management system e.g. ALMA
  • Knowledge of cataloguing standards and tools
  • RDA knowledge
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to work to a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage a variety of tasks and multiple priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a team environment
