Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas
At the University of the Western Cape (UWC), the Centre for Innovative Education & Communication Technologies (CIECT) is responsible for driving emergent technologies and innovative collaborative projects, to support teaching and learning aligned to the broader digital transformation agenda; and the Institutional Operating Plan (IOP). The university has continued to see significant strides in relation to the use and effective application of ICT packages for administrative purposes, learning, teaching and research.
CIECT has identified a growth area within the demand for ICT skills training across the campus community (academic, professional support and administrative stakeholders). In order to deliver the Centre's strategic initiatives, an opportunity exists for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate, Assistant: ICT Facilitator.
The Key Responsibilities of the incumbent include but are not limited to:
? Assist with the daily operations of ICT skills training and support for staff and students across various software packages and learning platforms (MS packages, video editing, MAS, Adobe PDF editor, Turnitin Plagiarism platform; and AI technologies).
? Assist the main facilitator with the design and implementation of various training workshops, both face-to-face and online.
? Co-facilitate monthly ICT skills training workshops (including specific group/disciplines).
? Prepare and organise ICT resources; check and verify the functionality of hardware and software; and the stability of the internet connectivity in the training/computer labs prior to training workshops.
? Conduct weekly routine checks to maintain the overall functionality of CIECT computer labs, ensuring readiness for training activities (functional computer, projector, video capture devices, and screens).
? Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling training sessions, preparing material, and maintaining records (participant attendance and feedback).
? Assist with the monitoring of training effectiveness through attendance records and feedback analysis to improve workshops.
? Assist main facilitator with the internal ICT helpdesk structure and support via online platforms, email, telephone, and walk-in consultations, resolving queries; and addressing application of ICT skills.
? Participate in user-acceptance testing of CIECT mobile software.
? Assist with the facilitation of CIECT short-courses, in collaboration with the broader team.
? Keep abreast of emerging and disruptive technologies (such as Artificial Intelligence) to develop and enhance ICT skills training workshops and platforms.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum education and experience required:
? National Diploma or Advanced Certificate (NQF 6) OR National Certificate or Higher Certificate at (NQF 5) , with four (4) years relevant experience in relation to ICT skills training for staff and students, within a Higher Education Setting.
Skills and Experience
Strong knowledge or understanding in these key areas would be advantageous.
? Use of ICT skills packages: MS packages, video editing, Adobe PDF editor.
? Use of Marks Administration System (MAS): Lecturer, Marks Administrator and Module Coordinator.
? Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technologies: CopyLeaks, Turnitin and ChatGPT.
? Use of Augmented and Virtual Reality: JigSpace - Basic 3D modelling.
? Facilitation and Presentation:
o Attention to detail and the ability to work within a timeline for production processes
o Ability to work independently as well as in a team
o Ability to explain technical terms in non-technical manner
o Ability to explore emerging technologies and share within team capacity building sessions
o Facilitation and presentation skills
o Written and oral communication skills.
o People/interpersonal skills
? Stress Management:
o High tolerance for stress in fast-paced, changing environments.
Minimum Competencies Required:
? Ability to analyse and solve problems effectively in relation to the effective use of ICT packages.
? Ability to work and collaborate across diverse teams.
? Understanding of security and privacy concerns (POPIA landscape), including roles, permissions, data sharing, and content storage.
? Ability to embrace ethical usage and considerations of content creation, emerging technologies, and disruptive technologies (including AI).
? Demonstrate effective communication skills for explaining complex ICT concepts to non-technical users.
? Possess a strong understanding of various ICT tools, software, and platforms used in educational settings.
? Use problem-solving skills to address technical issues and provide timely solutions during training sessions.
? Exhibit organisational skills to manage multiple training sessions and support activities.
? Exhibit strong communication and presentation skills to effectively engage workshop participants.
? Ability to explore and adapt to new ICT technologies and best practices.
