Job Description

Do various maintenance repairs on campus and other designated buildings as requested by the Foreman, Line Manager or by the job-card specifications.
Assist Handyman to execute minor maintenance repairs (and/or new installations) on campus and other designated buildings.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Grade 9/ Standard 7 schooling
  • At least two (2) years' relevant experience working in a general building or the construction sector
Recommendations:
  • Matric/Grade 12 or Equivalent NQF
  • A valid Driver's License
Note: Preference will be given to internal qualifying applicants
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Completion of multi-disciplinary minor maintenance work in academic and residence buildings in the following areas:
- Plumbing works - Unblocking/replacements of toilets, showers, basins, sinks and drains
- Carpentry works - Replacements and minor repairs
- Electric works - Changing of light bulbs and starters
- Painting: - Minor painting work and patching of holes
- Paving work - Repairs to paving distortions caused by various factors
  • Administration Works - Check job cards on BMJLS system and sign-off jobs completed
  • Scheduling of work and priority of works to be completed
  • Client Assistance
- Receive request from job card and foreman and complete in accordance
- Assist with moving/arranging furniture and equipment
  • Inspection of buildings - inspections of designated buildings to ascertain any faults
  • Contractor liaising - Assist contractors by showing them where required work is to be executed
  • Safety - Ensure that safety measure are observed & report health and safety issues
  • Building Inspections - Inspection of buildings to ascertain any faults
  • Cleaning - Cleaning of roof sheets, roof gutters and full bores
  • Team Support - Contribute to departmental projects
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Maintenance Foreman or Maintenance Manager
