Assembly Repair Dingman

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Inspecting newly assembled vehicles for dents, scratches, misaligned panels, or other cosmetic blemishes and performing necessary repairs using hand tools, power tools, and specialized body repair techniques. (PDR - Paintless dent removal)

Aligning body panels to specifications using jigs and fixtures to ensure proper fit and finish.

Grinding, sanding, and filling damaged areas to create a smooth surface ready for paint application.

Applying primer/sealer to repaired areas to seal the surface and prepare it for paint.

Metal finishing and basic spray painting

Welding and bonding: Ability to weld, rivet, or bond replacement parts

Performing thorough inspections of repaired areas to ensure quality standards are met before moving the vehicle to the paint booth

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



Grade 12

3-5 years' experience as a Dingman

COMPETENCIES:



Knowledge of automotive/body repair techniques: Should have a strong understanding of automotive repair principles and techniques, including frame straightening, welding, and refinishing.

Proficiency with hand tools like hammers, dollies, body files, as well as power tools like sanders, grinders, and spot welders.

Basic understanding of paint mixing and application techniques to ensure consistent color match.

Attention to detail: Must have a keen eye for detail to identify and repair even the smallest imperfections in a vehicle's bodywork.

Manual dexterity: Require excellent manual dexterity to perform precise and intricate repair work.

Problem-solving skills: Must possess strong problem-solving skills to identify and address issues during the repair process effectively.

Communication skills: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain repair processes.

Time management: Should be adept at managing time efficiently to complete repairs within specified timeframes.

Physical stamina: This role requires physical endurance, as an Assembly Repairman often must work in awkward positions, lift heavy parts, and stand for extended periods.

Proficiency in using relevant tools and equipment, including welders, paint spray guns, and pneumatic tools.

A driver's license and own transport are essential.
