Art Director - Cape TownNew Media, South Africa's leading content marketing and tech solutions agency, has a fantastic opportunity for a skilled art directorto work on one of its major accounts. Reporting to the Editor in Chief, the art directorwill be responsible for layout and design of Woolworths TASTE magazine as well as producing commercial work for other Woolworths campaigns, both moving and static. The successful applicant should have over 10 years design experience, with an impressive track record in magazine and digital design, as well as strong commercial visual communication work.The role will grow and change as the needs of the business do, so being open to change and adaptable is the key to succeeding in this role. An approachable, solutions-focussed and enthusiastic outlook will ensure you feel right at home in this dynamic team.What the job entails:Art direction: TASTEWorking closely with the EIC and food director to art direct TASTE magazine and ensure that it informs the creative identity of all the other TASTE channelsBrainstorming content and design concepts with the editorial teamCommissioning photographers and illustrators and picture editingProviding visual briefs and references to stylists, photographers, videographers and illustrators in keeping with the TASTE CI as requiredDesigning pages for print xe2x80x93 specifically features and coversAttending TASTE shoots as required and all cover shoots to ensure the best possible images are created in line with the brandEnsuring that the art direction of TASTE and all its assets aligns to both the clientxe2x80x99s objectives and the audiencexe2x80x99s needsOverseeing the work of the senior multimedia designerOverseeing the repro and production processOverseeing the print process and liaise with the WW production manager as required to ensure clients expectations of standards are metAttending WW briefing sessions with the brand and agency teams and work with the EIC and TASTE team to translate into creative executions for TASTE magazine and digital channels.Commercial art directionWorking closely with the commercial art director to provide art direction and design support on WW campaign projectsAttending WW-briefed video shoots when required and work with the food director, stylists and video teams to art direct moving content for WWWorking with the commercial art director, TASTE team and WW brand team to interpret and execute WW-specific briefs in line with the WW creative identityProviding creative mock-ups for both moving and stills content for WWProviding visual briefs and references to the teams producing WW assetsAttending WW-briefed shoots as required, working closely with the food director to reflect the WW brand and answer the specific briefAttending WW internal reviews to approve mock-ups and final executions when requiredWorking closely with the head of operations and core production team to ensure deadlines are met on WW projectsDelegating design work, give constructive feedback and pass on of skills to the senior multimedia designer on TASTE and any other junior art staff or stylistsWhat you should have:Degree or equivalent in graphic design or a related qualification10+ years design experience with at least 5 years on magazinesA high proficiency in relevant software and applications, including but not limited to all Adobe design software eg. InDesign, PhotoShop, Lightroom, Acrobat etcExcellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlinesStrong presentation skills and experience in presenting work to clientsAbility to work with teams across multiple levels of seniority to achieve project goalsOutstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt to changing project requirementsStrong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to work independently and collaboratively as a part of a teamBut why work with us?New Media is a world-class content marketing and digital solutions agency with a reputation for powerful storytelling.
