Job Purpose

The Department of Infrastructure, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a competent individual to maintain repair and protect the Proclaimed Provincial Road Network within the designated area comprising Region 1.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Senior Certificate or equivalent qualification); A minimum of 3 years relevant experience; A valid Code B driving licence (or higher) with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).

Key Performance Areas

Management of various Road Worker related Teams; Leading the execution of road construction/road maintenance operations; Assist in the undertaking of operational planning for the Proclaimed; Road Network; Manage, plan and Inspect road maintenance activities; Qualify and quantify material quantities for road maintenance activities; Define road defects during daily/weekly inspections and undertake corrective measures; Perform all administrative support functions pertaining to the Road; Worker related Teams; Safeguard work areas in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act; Handle emergency situations; Ensure that deadlines are met; train Supervisor and Subordinates in work methods; Experience in the following will be advantageous: Civil construction activities; Operating minor and large construction machines; Management and supervision of staff and administrative related experience.

Competencies

Knowledge of the following:

Maintenance and repair of defects on roads and within road reserves according to the work methods; Operating of construction related machines; Supervision over a team of workers; Daily planning, organizing and coordinating of civil construction work and/or the maintenance thereof; Relevant further training.

Skills needed:

Proven computer literacy; Written and verbal communication; Report writing skills; Maintain good interpersonal relations; Ability to work under pressure; Good planning and problem-solving; Good time management.

Remuneration

R 269 499 - R 317 463

per annum (Salary Level 6)

Note on remuneration in addition service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. These candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department. Candidates will be required to complete a practical exercise as part of the interviewing process. Nominated Candidate/s will be subjected to a medical fitness test as prescribed by the Construction Regulations, as contained in the OHS Act, 85/1993. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.
