Job Description

Job Purpose




The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to render a service which supports the fostering of a provincial identity and the protection of rights by preserving a provincial archival heritage for use by the government and the nation according to the Provincial Archives and Records Service of the Western Cape Act, 2005 (Act No. 3 of 2005).

Minimum Requirements




An appropriate 3-year National Diploma/B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification) in Archival studies or with history as a main subject; A valid code B (or higher) driving licence. Note: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities but have reasonable access to transport may also apply.

Key Performance Areas




Scanning of records and maps; Digitisation of archival records; Skills development and administration; Stored and managed scanned images on MyContent follow the relevant steps at all times.

Competencies



Knowledge of the following:

Legislative framework, governing the public service; Registry duties; Storage and retrieval of archival records; Procedures in terms of the working environment; Archival Automated retrieval systems and capturing of meta data; Archival systems and procedures; Digitisation of Archival records; Archival policies and legislation; It will be advantageous to have the following experience: Digitising of archival records; Archival legislation and policies.


Skills needed:

Proven computer literacy (MS Office); Written and verbal communication; Teamwork; Writing reports; Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Remuneration



R 325 101 - R 382 959 per annum (Salary level 7)





Note on remuneration: Service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.

Notes




Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. These candidates will be required to do a practical and attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and may also be required to undergo competency assessments/proficiency tests. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.
