Why do we need you?



We are seeking a results-driven Application/Sales Engineer to focus on market penetration in the defined market in South Africa and additional Sub-Saharan African countries through application engineering and business development. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical acumen, sales expertise, and a passion for delivering value-driven solutions to clients.


Role responsibilities:




Responsible for business development and sales for specified refractory products and customer contacts on regular basis. Application service and support for neutral ramming lining in induction furnace for steel melting. Work with commercial team for initial penetration of the market. Customer support/customer visits/complains handling. Technical proposal preparation of a refractory lining (material and installation costs, cost calculation) as well as cooperation in concept preparation for new applications / furnaces. Understanding of the price positioning and other commercial terms of conditions. Site supervision (supervision of installation of SG refractory products delivered and processed by the customer). Supervision of Installation of the SG refractory products at the customer's site, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations required for the activity at the respective sites.

Minimum requirements:




Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Metallurgy, Ceramics, or Mechanical Engineering with relevant steel plant or refractory application experience. 2-5 years' experience in steel plants, non-ferrous/ferrous foundries, or refractory application environments. Hands-on experience in refractory products, installation practices, lining procedures, and performance monitoring (preferred). Strong understanding of induction furnace operations, melting practices, ramming mass behavior, and failure analysis (preferred). Exposure to new product trials, performance analysis, and process optimization activities. Experience coordinating with plant teams, suppliers, and internal technical teams for execution of application-related activities. Ability to interact directly with customers, understand their operational needs, and propose suitable technical solutions. Experience in managing site supervisors or contract manpower would be an added advantage. Capability to support the sales cycle through technical presentations, product performance discussions, and commercial coordination. Knowledge of safety protocols within steel plants and compliance requirements for on-site activities. Understanding of documentation requirements for trials, performance reports, and customer approvals. Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for reporting, data analysis, and presentations. Willingness to travel, as customers are located across South Africa and neighboring countries. Good communication skills and the ability to represent the company effectively during customer interactions. Analytical skills to deliver appropriate solutions Previous manufacturing and or heavy engineering background is preferred
