Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled
Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA)
to provide
Basic Life Support (BLS)
in emergency medical situations. The AEA will respond to emergency calls, assess patients, administer pre-hospital care, and transport patients safely to medical facilities. The ideal candidate must be physically fit, calm under pressure, and committed to delivering high-quality emergency medical care in accordance with South African regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide
Basic Life Support (BLS)
as per HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) guidelines.
Assess patients' conditions and perform necessary medical interventions (e.g., CPR, bleeding control, splinting, oxygen administration).
Safely transport patients to hospitals or healthcare facilities while monitoring their condition.
Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment (e.g., defibrillators, stretchers, oxygen systems).
Communicate effectively with emergency dispatch, medical personnel, and patients.
Complete accurate patient care reports and documentation.
Ensure the ambulance is clean, stocked, and ready for emergencies.
Follow infection control and safety protocols.
Assist Intermediate or Advanced Life Support (ILS/ALS) personnel when required.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Certified Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA) registration with HPCSA.
Valid BLS certification (HPCSA-accredited).
Code 10 or Code C1 driver's license.
Minimum
1-2 years of experience in emergency medical services (preferred).
Physical fitness and ability to lift/move patients.
Strong decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.
Knowledge of South African emergency medical protocols.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with
Netcare 911, ER24, or government EMS.
Additional certifications (e.g., First Aid, Firefighting, Rescue).
Fluency in multiple South African languages.
Work Environment:
Shift work (day/night/weekends/public holidays).
High-stress, fast-paced emergency response settings.
Travel within designated service areas.
