Blending Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating & monitoring the high-speed blender to manufacture PVC blends according to the required standards. This role ensures adherence to safety, quality, and efficiency targets to support the production of medical-grade sheeting + tubing. Operator must complete all required production/quality documents, maintain equipment & troubleshoot.
Machine Preparation and Start-up
  • Inspect and clean equipment at the start of each shift, verifying operational readiness.
  • Program the blending machine with the specified blend recipe, ensuring accuracy in SCADA setup.
  • Confirm all raw materials are available and meet the quality specifications based on the Batch Mixing Report (BMR).
Production and Blending Operation
  • Operate the blending machine following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), monitoring temperature, weight, and cycle timing.
  • Ensure precise measurement and mixing of raw materials, comparing against BMR.
  • Select batch sizes and initiate blending cycles according to production plans.
Quality Control and Monitoring
  • Regularly inspect printouts and graphs to verify compliance with weight, temperature, and blend standards.
  • Monitor quality parameters throughout the blending process, troubleshooting any discrepancies to prevent defective batches.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Complete all production batch records accurately and maintain all required documentation, including SOP compliance and quality logs.
  • Generate daily Oracle batches, recording transactions related to materials and outputs.
Equipment Maintenance
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on blending machines and associated equipment before, during, and after production.
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting and fault diagnostics, resolving common issues or escalating to maintenance teams when necessary.
Health, Safety, and GMP Compliance
  • Comply with all GMP, safety, and SOP standards, identifying and reporting unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Actively participate in safety drills and adhere to OHS Act guidelines.
Supporting Cross-Functional Operations
  • Provide relief for other roles, such as hopper filling, as directed by the supervisor, ensuring continuity in production.
Qualifications:
  • Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Science.
  • Technical qualification or certification in a relevant field (Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Engineering) advantageous.
  • Basic Computer Literacy (with proficiency in SCADA and Oracle systems as a plus).
Experience:
  • Minimum of 1-2 years in a similar production role, preferably in plastic or pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • Proven experience operating industrial blending machinery or equivalent automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a regulated environment.
