Based on a foundation of internationally-recognised quality research, the faculty is committed to learning and teaching excellence and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the major scientific disciplines as well as a professional degree in Pharmacy.
South African Institute for Advanced Materials Chemistry (SAIAMC) as a part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, comprises research and development activities in Green Hydorgen, Fuel Cells, Lithium Ion Batteries, Green Fuels and Water Purification. SAIAMC has been established to pioneer a new type of relationship between industry and academia in which local companies and organisations locate a significant portion of their research development and demonstration capability at the Institute in order to achieve their requirements in sustainable energy supply and environmental protection. Simultaneously, the Institute develops human capital capable of moving seamlessly from university to industry without the intermediate training period usually involved with graduate employment.
The successful candidate will start on 01 May 2026 and will be responsible for the following key responsibility areas:

  • Academic and student administration
  • Enquiry management
  • Marks administration
  • Committee administration
  • Financial administration including budget and ledger reporting and procurement
  • Meeting/Minutes administration
  • Human Resources administration
  • Act as Personal Assistant to the Director of the Institute
Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 and a relevant three-year post-matric qualification with three years relevant experience or Matric with three to five years relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in computer programmes/software packages including Word; Excel / MS Office Suites /Power Point.
  • Administrative experience in a Higher Education environment as well as knowledge of student administration systems.
  • Experience in financial administration in the Higher Education environment.
Required competencies:
  • Demonstrated communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, and to adhere to and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work without supervision and to pay attention to detail.
Added advantage and preferences:
  • Experience working in Natural Sciences or Engineering environment at a University would be a strong advantage
  • Experience with supervision / training of admin assistants
