Job Description


Job Purpose

The Department of Transport and Public Works, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a competent individual to provide administrative support to the Materials Sub-directorate responsible for managing pavement and geotechnical designs, as well as acquisition and technical support services in terms of road infrastructure materials. This post is based in Cape Town.

Minimum Requirements

Senior Certificate (Grade 12 or equivalent qualification); A minimum of 6 year relevant experience.

Recommendation

A valid (Code B or higher) driving licence.

Key Performance Areas

Responsible for the following: General laboratory administration; Purchasing and payments; Management of technical documents and literature (including library); Training, supervision and monitoring of subordinates; General PA tasks for laboratory manager; General administration tasks pertaining to laboratory compliance to it quality manual; Managing the calibration and verification of laboratory equipment in compliance with SANAS requirements; General administration tasks pertaining to the National Laboratory Association.

Competencies

Knowledge and understanding of the following: Legislation, Regulations and Public Service rules regarding training and human resource related matters; Skills Development and Training; Supply Chain Management; Skills Programmes, learnerships, ABET learning programmes and recognitions of prior learning; Proven computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, MS PowerPoint); Communication skills (written & verbal); Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines; Ability to work independently and apply own initiative at times; Conflict and diversity management; Self-motivated; Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Remuneration

R 257 508 per annum (Salary Level 7) Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
