Our dynamic Actuarial practice is a market leading service, covering all segments of the life and non-life insurance industries, with more than 100 actuaries in 5 locations across Africa. Our team forms part of the wider Financial Services Risk Team, which includes quants and banking risk and regulatory experts, and we collaborate extensively with our colleagues across the region and globally to take tailored solutions and services to our clients. We are looking to expand the Actuarial team by investing in a Senior Manager in either of EY's Johannesburg or Cape Town offices. We are looking for highly motivated individuals that are want to rapidly grow their careers in an environment that is focused on developing its people and serving its clients across Africa. This will require working extensively with our colleagues from across the world in various disciplines (e.g. Financial Accounting, Data, Finance, Corporate Finance, etc.) which will expose the candidate to a wide range of insights and experiences which will benefit their development and careers significantly. The role requires leadership across clients, people and solutions, with a platform to help shape and develop the future.

Your key responsibilities
  • Driving the development of actuarial processes and tools, all while prioritizing and creating work plans
  • Leading audit support work on IFRS4, IFRS17 and Solvency Assessment and Management
  • Delivering on HAF engagements for non-life insurers and non-life reinsurers
  • Pursuing and delivering covering a wide range of areas, such as non-life risks, investments, risk management, capital management and resilience
  • Building lasting client relationships at senior and executive levels while working to understand their unique objectives and motivators
  • Keeping up to date with industry and regulatory news and trends, and actively identifying risks or opportunities to improve and expand our services
  • Building EY's actuarial brand within the market through involvement in industry committees and working groups and presentations at Actuarial conventions and seminars
  • Further developing our team by coaching and mentoring junior colleagues
  • Continually learning and sharing your knowledge with the wider actuarial team
We'll look to you to take a holistic approach to the role, developing your skills and knowledge in multiple areas. That means you won't just be working on one specific area, but rather you would get exposure to a broad range of actuarial work. You'll add value beyond what's traditionally expected. You will spend most of your day working on your projects and collaborating with team members, with occasional direct meetings with clients and other stakeholders to monitor and discuss progress.

Skills and attributes for success
  • 7+ years' experience in the Non-life Insurance industry
  • Fully qualified actuary (ASSA/IFOA), specialisation in non-life preferable
  • Experience in financial reporting (SAM/Solvency II and IFRS) and HAF work
  • IFRS17 experience would be advantageous
  • Ability to effectively work with various stakeholders ranging from middle management to the Board, including non-actuarial stakeholders
  • Experience in Corporate and Board reporting would be advantageous
  • A strong sense of commercial awareness and innovative mindset
  • Be a pro-active self-starter
Ideally, you'll also have
  • The executive presence and confidence to work with senior clients
  • A global mindset with an appreciation of how organizations must respond to new risks that the forces of globalization bring
