Based in Blackheath, Cape Town, Mellon Housing Initiative (MHI) is a non-profit organization that adopts a social development approach to building quality houses for disadvantaged communities, through strategic alliances with government, the private sector, civil society organizations and individuals. Mellon Housing Initiative's strategies include: Building quality houses Community-specific capacity building & skills development ; Promoting the spirit of Philanthropy & Volunteerism.
The main functions of the Accountant will include managing and preparing financial accounts across multiple entities, including reconciliations, cashflow management, donor management, reporting and specific educational project-based accounts.
Key responsibilities:
Oversee Accounts Payable and Receivable
Cashflow Management: daily updates and monthly forecasts (6 months in advance)
Review and authorise Cashbook and Petty Cash transactions and reconciliations
Maintain and manage Labour System
Accurate and timely preparation of monthly financial statements
Annual audit preparation and management
Manage and support the Finance Team
Ensure statutory compliance at all times
Requirements:
BComm degree in Accounting or related field
Pastel Evolution accounting system
Proven track record with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar position
Experience in the construction industry would be an advantage
Driver's license and own transport, preferred
Position: Full-time, with working hours 08:00 to 17:00.
Salary: R45,000 per month, inclusive of all benefits.
