POST TITLE: Academic Success Coach


PEROMNES POST LEVEL: 8

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Academic advising of undergraduate students (including but not limited to: participating in the orientation of new students, advising on curriculum changes/ module changes/ drops/ additions and withdrawal Support undergraduate students at risk of not succeeding Direct/Refer students with problems, such as financial and psychological, to the relevant support services Track students' performance and direct them to the academic assistance available Manage data on student interactions Present workshops to address student needs Academic advising (including but not limited to) participating in the orientation of new students, advising on curriculum changes/module changes/drops/adds and withdrawal Managing and maintaining data on student interactions; Supporting students or young people who face psychosocial and/or academic challenges; Maintaining an advisory file on each advisee; and Participating in projects from time to time as delegated by management.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:



A Hons degree in Educational Psychology, Psychology or Social Work, or a related field; Three years' experience working with university students and/or young people. Three years' experience working in higher education as a tutor, mentor, advisor, or similar, at a tertiary institution


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):



KNOWLEDGE OF

Curriculum issues Time management and goal setting Stress Management Systems available at the University of Pretoria Student Counselling


TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES IN TERMS OF

Running workshops Conducting 1-1 interviews Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) Working online IT experience in terms of data capturing.


BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

Follow through on recommendations and case management ability. Empathetic towards students Communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work with people from various backgrounds and levels Coping with stress Have a caring and nurturing nature Empathetic to student needs Facilitation skills Organisational skills


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

Two years of career counselling experience.


The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
