Call the hotline toll free number: 0800 003 056 or email Operating Division : Transnet Capital Projects Position Title : Project Director Employee Group : Permanent Department : Capital Project Location : Cape Town Reporting To : Regional Project Director Grade Level : C Reference Number : 70001737 Position Purpose : *THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL BE BASED IN SALDANHA.* Project Director, reporting to the Regional Project Director - Project & Construction Management (P&CM), is accountable for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of project(s). The role has the overall accountability for the following in a region: # The scope, cost, schedule and quality on all the phases of the programme or project(s). # Providing routine and regular feedback to the Project Sponsors, Regional Project Director: P&CM and Execution Team on Progress, issues or areas of concern. # Decision making and co-ordinating overall needs and direction in liaison with the General Manager: P&CM. # Reviewing the progress of the programme or projects regularly with the Regional Project Director: P&CM and project team as necessary. # Providing support to the Senior Project Management of the EPCM Provider, i.e. assists with major issues, problems and policy conflicts; removes obstacles; is active in planning the scope; approves scope

changes, signs off major deliverables; and signs off on approvals to proceed to each succeeding project phase as per the PLP process. # Fulfilling the role of direct liaison officer with the Transnet Division Customers and Stakeholders in support of Senior Management, Public Regulatory & Government interactions. Position outputs : # Providing leadership to Project and Construction Management staff in a region and interface with relevant departmental heads of Engineering and Capital Governance and Controls. # Ensuring that the project(s) are executed safely and in compliance with all regulatory requirements, company policies, standing instructions and safe working procedures. # Developing an appropriate organisation structure for execution of the project, identifying functions necessary, selecting appropriately experienced and enthusiastic personnel for specific positions and delegating responsibilities. Identifying part-time team members in conjunction with individual Group Leaders. # Ensuring that the project(s) are executed in compliance with all regulatory requirements, company policies, standing instructions and working procedures. # Setting goals and objectives, identifying priorities, clearly communicating these to team members and appropriate other parties, and providing leadership in their implementation. # Motivating, ensuring commitment and building a result oriented team focused on achieving the optimum outcome for Transnet. # Maintaining a relationship with the client at a senior executive level. # Maintaining and displaying clear "ownership" and accountability for delivery of the project's business outcomes. # Recommending and implementing corrective strategies where needed to best meet Transnet's overall project objectives. # Ensuring adherence to the project's authorised Scope of Work, monitoring scope status and advising the client accordingly. # Defining and delegating the projects roles and assigning levels of approval and authority. # Being responsible for communication with the client, particularly regarding requests for changes and modifications. Ensuring contractual commitments regarding deliverables are met. # Reviewing and approving the monthly project progress report prepared for the client and / or for distribution to other parties. # Signing third party procurement contracts within the approved delegated framework limits as the Client. # Supporting staff development and skills transfer # Ensuring adherence to the project's authorised Scope of Work, monitoring scope status and advising the client accordingly. # Monitoring performance of relevant role players to ensure SLA's are and obligations are adhered to. # Managing finance in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements. # Securing resource requirements to ensure deliverables are met in accordance to targets. # Managing Human Resources actions according to policies, procedures and legal requirements. Qualifications & Experience : # BSc Eng or Bachelor's Degree (Civil or Mech or Equivalent) is required
# Master qualifications in Management or Engineering is an added advantage
# PMP Certification or Equivalent PM Certification is an added advantage
# ECSA or SACPCMP or Equivalent Registration is required
